According to his management agency Team GMP, a local doctor mistakenly gave the athlete an injection that contained a banned substance. In a statement to the press, Team GMP stated, "As a professional swimmer for ten years, Park Tae Hwan didn't even take cold medicine so that he wouldn't fail the doping tests. He is more shocked by the results than anyone else."
The agency continued, "Two months ago, he received free chiropractic care from a local hospital prior to competing in the Incheon Asian Games. At the time, the doctor said that he would give Park Tae Hwan an injection, and Park Tae Hwan confirmed with the doctor multiple times about the components of the injection and if it contained any banned substances. The doctor at the hospital confirmed that the injection would not be an issue."
Lastly, Team GMP revealed that they will be holding the hospital liable for the incident. They said, "However, the injection was revealed to have included banned substances and with our team of legal experts, we're trying to figure out why the hospital had injected Park Tae Hwan with banned substances. We're preparing to hold them civilly and criminally liable. We apologize for causing trouble to those who support and love Park Tae Hwan."
Representatives of Park Tae Hwan also requested a full police investigation into the hospital.
