During the discussion with high school seniors about their parents' nagging and difference in thought, Gil instilled gratitude in them by sharing that he never grew up with such things.
Gil shared, "To be honest, there is a part that I can't relate to... Having parents to tell you those things... I lived without that. My father became handicapped when I was in 5th grade and he couldn't walk, talk, and with the intelligence level of a child, he was put on bed rest. My six-member family lived in one small room."
"I had no one to tell me those things and I had nothing but anger at the world. I thought to myself, why was I born? I hated going into that small room in the basement. My mother worked and lived on state benefits to help my father to walk and talk again... I couldn't understand why I was doing this and I had no dream, no nothing."
"After completing my national college entrance exam, my father passed away and I didn't think of anything at the time. My mother told my father, 'Honey, don't get hurt in heaven and live well. I will stay a bit longer and leave. I will receive luxury from my excellent kids and live comfortably. Don't be sick and wait for me."
"I thought what is there for me to do. I loved music so every time I lost an audition, my mother taught me not to give up with her physical strength. I couldn't do anything but to work hard."
