tvN's hit drama 'Reply 1997' has been receiving a lot of attention from overseas viewers.
CJ E&M ran a 'Reply 1997 Cover Contest' on YouTube from September 19 to October 2, and international fans from America, Australia, Hong Kong, China, Brazil, and more responded. Fans had to sing their own version of Eunji and Seo In Guk's duet "All For You" and upload their video onto YouTube. Winners were determined by YouTube views, likes, comments, as well as their singing ability.
Surprisingly, 85% of the participants are reported to have been foreign fans, and the video that's gained the most interest is one entered by a girl from Poland. Her video was viewed more than 20,000 times, and her vocal abilities and excellent pronunciation especially impressed viewers. She also dressed in a men's suit with a mustache accessory to sing Seo In Guk's part.
CJ E&M said, "As you can see from Psy's "Gangnam Style", YouTube and other online platforms are having a large effect on K-pop's global spread. We felt the heat ourselves because so many foreign fans participated in the 'Reply 1997' cover contest. We're going to attract global fans' attention through other online platforms as well."
The final winners of the 'Reply 1997 Cover Contest' will be revealed on October 9.
