...on purpose, for her role in the upcoming movie "My Love by My Side" as a paralyzed figure skater. In two months, Ga-In gained a whopping 8 kg (roughly 17 lbs) in 2 months for her role, which is essentially the opposite of what Jung Ryu-Won did (i.e. become a walking skeleton). Ga-In's movie will be directed by Park Jin-Pyo, who also directed Yoona's TV drama "You Are My Destiny", which despite its obvious and generic storyline present in of almost all Korean TV dramas (poor girl falls in love with rich boy, mother-in-law opposes, someone gets cancer) and mediocre acting (especially by that guy who played Yoona's husband), garnered extremely high viewership. In an interview for the movie, Ga-In said, "The director told me to gain weight and bought me expensive herbal medicine. Thanks to that, I gained 8 kilograms." Ga-In will play a figure skater who becomes paralyzed after a tragic accident. Her goal weight was 50 kilograms, so she had to work hard to gain the weight. Ironically, another cast member, Kim Myoung-Min (famous for his role as Maestro Kang in "Beethoven Virus") had to lose weight for his role. "On set, I was always eating something, but Mr. Kim couldn't eat anything. We had opposite situations so I felt really bad for him. I'm learning a lot from the director, Kim Myoung Min and Ha Ji-Won about acting. I want to show myself as an actress and not just as a singer." Though she supposedly gained weight, she still looks like a stick (i.e. skinny) to me. If this is supposedly her "after" picture (since it came with the interview), I don't see where those extra 17 pounds went to.
