Crush and j-hope opened up about their decision to collaborate on "Rush Hour" in a new video.
On September 24 KST, Crush unveiled the first episode of his carpool-style online talk show 'BLACKVOX,' featuring the show's first special guest j-hope of BTS.
During the interview, j-hope shared his first reaction to the suggestion of collaboration. According to his story, Crush called him and said that he had prepared a song for them, which excited j-hope as he considers Crush an impressive artist. "As soon as I got your call, my heart kept pounding. I couldn't wait to check out the song. You said you prepared the song for me, and hearing that, my heart naturally raced," j-hope confessed. "Upon hearing the song, well, the song itself was... I couldn't resist. The song itself was so incredible. It was just my style."
"Though you are participating as a featuring artist, your energy and passion was as powerful as mine. It was really palpable. Honestly, I was really grateful for that," Crush complimented.
"When I participate in some project that isn't my own, I believe that I should have the sincerity and respect that the project deserves. I'm always mindful of that," j-hope responded. "I believe, only that way, we can create synergy. It's the first time I've featured on your song as a solo artist. Following the release of my own album, it's a very pivotal and momentous moment for me too. I poured my heart and soul into it because I've always been a big fan of the artist Crush."
During another portion of the interview, Crush mentioned that he wasn't aware of just how good j-hope is as a rap lyricist, to which j-hope responded, "To be honest, I didn't know what 'Rush Hour' was at first. When I first heard the word 'rush hour' for the first time from you, I looked it up, and I had my own interpretation of it. As for my personal interpretation of 'traffic' or my life, 'traffic' does not have to be associated with cars on the road. I interpreted many cars on the road as people. Sometimes I get stuck or overwhelmed by interpersonal relationships for various reasons. There have been lots of struggles. But for the moment, it's a fun song, and Crush and I are working together, 'I'd just follow you and go straight.' That was my message through the lyrics."
While discussing the music video for "Rush Hour," Crush brought up j-hope's impressive dancing talent, revealing, "This is the very first time I've practiced dancing together [with a featured artist] and prepared a performance for a music video. I remember this story. I was kind of shocked. For the music video filming, I practiced the dance moves for the chorus part every single day for 2-3 weeks straight, and you mastered the dance moves in just 30 minutes. Effortlessly. You mastered it flawlessly. It barely took 30 minutes. You just saw it once and went like, 'Like this? Like this here?' Then you danced to the music. I got chills on my back here."
Later, the two wrapped up the interview with a 'carpool karaoke' style version of "Rush Hour," showing their live and laidback chemistry as artists.
