Singer Kangnam revealed he has passed the writing part of South Korea's naturalization exam on the latest installment of his YouTube series, 'Neighborhood Friend Kangnam'.
Kangnam, who is Japanese, decided to live permanently in South Korea after marrying his wife, Olympic speedskater Lee Sang Hwa, in October of 2019. On December 12th, Kangnam posted his journey to earning South Korean citizenship. As he had two more tries left, he even went to a private test-prepping institution to study.
On his second attempt, however, he failed again by being 6 points short of the cutoff. In the video, he seemed defeated but he did not give up. On his third and last try, he finally passed the writing portion of the naturalization test with 63 points.
He commented on the phone, "I thought I wasn't going to make it. I grabbed my last opportunity. It would have been bad if I failed again. Then, I have to go back to Japan to get all the paper works done from the scratch. But this is not the end. There still is the interview portion of it. I get two tries for the interview. If I fail both attempts at the interview, I heard I have to take the written portion again from the beginning. So help me prepare for the interview."
Isn't he half Korean in terms of ethnicity? Just mentioning it because the article just says he's Japanese
