On the March 15 broadcast of KBS2's 'Yoo Hee Yeol's Sketchbook', the boys of N.Flying made their very nervous, first ever appearance since their debut in 2015!
After performing their #1 chart climber "Rooftop", the band sat down with Yoo Hee Yeol for their talk portion, where Yoo Hee Yeol asked, "I heard that you guys received some intense training before your debut. What was it?"
Jaehyun answered, "It is sort of a tradition in our company, and band trainees are sent on a study abroad trip to Japan. But with no help, no phones, no manager, only the training members. There, we have to survive on our own and learn the language on our own."
Seunghyub added, "We had no help, and we still had to go on buskings with all our luggage, so we had to carry all our luggage plus two guitars per person while traveling on the subways. My height is 181 cm, but at the time, I lost weight until I became 58 kg." When asked what the smallest crowd they've ever performed in front of was, Seunghyub answered 2, also recalling how at the time, a Japanese police officer came and tried to stop their busking performance with just 2 audience members, demanding to see the boys' passports. Thankfully, among the 2 audience members, there was 1 fan there to help the boys talk the situation out with the police.
Next, N.Flying opened up about their 2-year hiatus, some time after their debut. Seunghyub commented, "After debuting, we struggled for a long time asking what our team's true color was. If we were doing things right the way they were. We talked with our company, and decided to take some time to find our color. But, we are still not quite sure what our color is now."
Veteran musician and MC Yoo Hee Yeol assured the boys on this matter, saying, "Because you guys don't have that many songs that you've released yet, you can't know what your color is. It's inevitable that even you don't know your own color. I think this struggle is not something you need to worry about now, but more after about 4-5 years. After you stack up all of your songs one by one, you will be able to realize, 'N.Flying's color is this.' It won't be too late if you decide to ask that question then." All of the members seemed very touched by this advice, thanking the sunbae musician. Check out more of N.Flying's clips from this week's 'Sketchbook' above and below!
They had a tough startup, and this experience will make them appreciate what they have now.. As long as they're sincere with their music and believe in their fans, they can go further, I'm rooting for them.
