A documentary film titled 'First Lady,' which focuses on Kim Keon Hee, the wife of President Yoon Suk Yeol, is set to be released on December 12.
The film 'First Lady' delves into the various controversies surrounding Kim Keon Hee. Its release has garnered even greater attention due to the ongoing political turmoil surrounding President Yoon Suk Yeol's declaration of martial law and the ensuing impeachment crisis. However, a planned screening of the film at the National Assembly was canceled.
On December 10, Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Jun Hyuk stated, "The National Assembly Secretariat notified us that it would not permit the screening of 'First Lady' at the National Assembly," adding, "I understand that the People Power Party strongly opposed the screening during the venue reservation review process, leading to its disapproval."
The film features appearances by several figures linked to past controversies involving Kim Keon Hee. These include Pastor Choi Jae Young, who gifted a Dior bag; Lee Myung Soo, a journalist from 'Voice of Seoul' who had a seven-hour phone call with Kim Keon Hee during the 20th presidential election; and Chung Dae Taek, a businessman who has been engaged in legal disputes with Kim Keon-hee's family for over a decade.
Meanwhile, President Yoon declared a state of martial law late at night on December 3. However, in the early hours of December 4, the National Assembly passed a resolution demanding the termination of martial law.
On December 7, the National Assembly held a vote on an impeachment motion against President Yoon. The motion failed after lawmakers from the People Power Party walked out of the plenary session. In response, opposition parties announced plans to push for a second impeachment motion.
