Sungmin is officially leaving SM Entertainment and joining Totalset Entertainment to focus on his trot music career.
On April 30, SM Entertainment released a statement confirming the end of their exclusive contract with Sungmin.
“We would like to inform you that our exclusive contract with Sungmin has come to an end,” the company said.
“We are grateful to Sungmin for the 20-plus years we’ve shared together—from his trainee days to his time as an artist. We will continue to support his musical endeavors and new journey, and we ask fans to give him their warm encouragement as well.”
Sungmin also shared a personal message on Instagram, reflecting on his time with SM:
“In December 2000, I walked into the SM audition hall full of courage and dreams. I was just a third-year middle school student back then. Now, that long journey with SM has come to an end.”
He continued, “To me, SM was like a teacher, family, and friend. The past 20 years have been a tremendous gift. I sincerely thank everyone who’s been with me along the way.”
Looking ahead, Sungmin shared his plans with Totalset Entertainment:
“Now, with new dreams, I’m standing at a new starting line. I’ll walk this path sincerely, without losing my passion, alongside the Totalset Entertainment family. I promise to repay your support with heartfelt songs and performances. I’ll continue moving forward, one step at a time.”
Totalset Entertainment is home to several well-known trot artists, including Jin Sung, Han Hye Jin, Park Gun, Hong Ja, and Ahn Sung Hoon—making it a fitting home for Sungmin’s current musical direction.
Sungmin debuted in 2005 as a member of Super Junior. He married actress Kim Sa Eun in December 2014 and welcomed his first son in September 2023. Since his marriage, he has shifted away from group promotions and pursued solo activities, officially debuting as a trot singer in 2023.
