March 22 – Yoon Si Yoon’s past remarks about the late Kim Sae Ron from nine years ago are being revisited following the actress's recent passing.
Yoon Si Yoon and Kim Sae Ron starred together in JTBC's 'Mirror of the Witch,' which aired its final episode in July 2016. At the time, Yoon Si Yoon was 31 years old, while Kim Sae Ron was 17.
In July 2016, Yoon Si Yoon posted a heartfelt message titled "I Have One Request!" on his fan café.
Having been discharged as a sergeant from the 2nd Marine Division in January 2016, Yoon Si Yoon shared his experiences in the military. "I went through a lot of humiliating situations in the army. One day, I was sent to clean the room of a drill instructor who was seven years younger than me. The instructor started counting the Choco Pies in the room, warning me not to steal them. It made me feel so miserable," he recalled.
He continued, "At that moment, I thought of something. I had surgery on my wrist while I was in the military. I remember waiting for the military bus to go to the hospital when a younger soldier standing in the aisle looked at me and said, ‘Hey, old man, get lost!’ Another time, a junior cook secretly grilled some leftover meat for me. I was thankful but embarrassed. But then I got caught by a superior, who humiliated me for eating the meat and called me pathetic. I was forced to march with a full pack for an hour while others mocked me for ‘stealing a piece of meat.’ At that moment, I also thought of one thing."
Yoon Si Yoon then referred to Kim Sae Ron, saying, "I never imagined that I would meet a 14-years-younger, doll-like, beautiful acting genius like her. Did those people who looked down on me in the army ever imagine that I would one day be acting alongside someone so incredible? I wish I could show them. The very people who treated me as insignificant should see me standing next to her."
He added, "We filmed the last scene together, and it was like a panorama of my past playing before my eyes. Our time acting together has ended now."
Yoon Si Yoon reflected on the value of relationships, saying, "Fate is a miracle. It humbles you and makes you grow. Relationships come unexpectedly, and accepting them makes you happy. Now, I’m preparing to take the next step. Starting tomorrow, I’ll begin my next journey, and I promise to share every moment of that preparation with all of you."
He concluded his post with a request: "I have one favor to ask. Please leave a supportive comment on the articles about our little one, who is now too grown up to work with me again. Some mean-spirited people are leaving malicious comments, and it makes me feel so bad for her. I’m going to leave a supportive comment right now—let's all encourage her!"
At the time, Kim Sae Ron expressed her gratitude toward Yoon Si Yoon, saying, "He took such good care of me on set, and he’s such a kind person. Since he looks so young and has such a youthful personality, I never felt the age difference at all."
Regarding the age gap and criticism directed at Kim Sae Ron, Yoon Si Yoon once commented, "Some people criticized her for taking on such a mature role at a young age. But her character is 17 years old, and I play a 17-year-old in the drama. So if anyone should be criticized, it’s me. Sae Ron is doing a great job portraying her role—she’s not the problem."
Kim Sae Ron passed away last month on the 16th at the age of 24.
