Rapper San E (real name Jung San) has received a deferred prosecution decision after being investigated for assaulting a pedestrian.

According to reports, the Seoul Western District Prosecutors’ Office decided on February 25th not to indict San E on charges of special injury, granting him deferred prosecution.

Deferred prosecution means that, while there is sufficient evidence for an indictment, the prosecution decides not to proceed with a trial due to mitigating circumstances. This decision also ensures that no criminal record is left on file.

San E was accused of assaulting a pedestrian, identified as 'A,' near the entrance of a park in Mapo-gu, Seoul, on July 28th last year. Reports state that he told 'A,' “Handle your bicycle properly,” and allegedly used his phone and other objects to attack the individual. He was later booked by the police in August 2023.

At the time, 'A' claimed, “I suffered a cut near my eye and damage to some of my teeth.” Police arrived at the scene, conducted an initial investigation, and then sent both San E and 'A' home.

San E’s father, who was present at the scene, was also booked for assaulting 'A,' while 'A' was charged with mutual assault. However, since both parties agreed not to press charges against each other, the case was closed under a non-prosecutable offense requiring a complaint.

Following the investigation, police forwarded San E’s case without detention to the prosecution on January 10th.

After news of the incident surfaced, San E issued a public apology, stating, “I sincerely apologize to the victim of my assault case.”
