Actor Kwon Sang Woo’s movie 'Hitman 2' has claimed the top spot at the weekend box office.
According to the Korean Film Council’s integrated computer network statistics on the 3rd, 'Hitman 2' attracted 457,530 viewers nationwide from January 31st to February 2nd, securing first place at the box office during its first full weekend since release.
Initially, after premiering on January 22nd, 'Hitman 2' lost the top spot to 'Dark Nuns' in its opening weekend. However, the film saw a remarkable turnaround during the six-day Lunar New Year holiday, drawing the highest number of viewers. This momentum carried into its second weekend, securing its position at the top of the box office.
With a break-even point of approximately 2.3 million viewers, 'Hitman 2' is expected to surpass 2 million viewers today (the 3rd), putting it on track to reach profitability later this week.
Meanwhile, second place at the box office went to 'Dark Nuns,' which drew 243,890 viewers over the same period, bringing its cumulative total to 1,433,888 viewers. Though the horror film attracted 580,000 viewers during its opening weekend, its weekend viewership dropped by half in just one week. However, given its strong performance during the Lunar New Year holiday, it remains optimistic about breaking even, which is estimated at approximately 1.6 million viewers.
