The movie 'Hitman 2' has reclaimed the number one position at the box office, overtaking 'Dark Nuns.'
According to the integrated computer network of the Korean Film Council on the 28th, 'Hitman 2' attracted 189,784 viewers the previous day, surpassing 'Dark Nuns' and securing first place at the box office. The cumulative number of viewers now stands at 794,671.
This sequel to the 2020 hit 'Hitman' (2.4 million viewers) continues the story of Jun, a legendary National Intelligence Service agent turned webtoon writer. In the new film, Jun releases a webtoon that unexpectedly mirrors real-life crimes, triggering a series of events. Starring Kwon Sang Woo, Jung Joonho, Lee Yi Kyung, and Hwang Wooseulhye, the movie is once again directed by Choi Wonseop.
'Dark Nuns,' starring Song Hye Kyo, holds second place, drawing 162,448 viewers on the same day, with a cumulative audience of 768,603.
The film follows nuns who perform a forbidden ritual to save a boy possessed by an evil spirit. Song Hyekyo plays Yunia, a determined nun willing to do whatever it takes to rescue the boy, while Jeon Yeobin portrays Michaela, who aids Yunia in becoming a "black nun." 'Dark Nuns' serves as a thematic sequel to the 2015 film 'The Black Priests.' It also marks Song Hyekyo’s return to Korean cinema after 11 years, her last appearance being in 'My Palpitating Life' in 2014. Directed by Kwon Hyukjae, whose works include 'The Fixer' (2010) and 'Count' (2023), the film has been a significant draw for audiences.
In third place is 'Secret That Cannot Be Told,' starring D.O., which was released on the 27th. The movie attracted 53,890 viewers on its opening day, bringing the cumulative total to 52,674. The fantasy romance begins when Yoojun (Do Kyungsoo) and Jungah (Won Jina) meet in a mysterious campus practice room where the secret of time is hidden. Directed by Seo Yoomin, who previously helmed 'Memories of Tomorrow' (2021), the film is a remake of the Taiwanese movie of the same name.
Fourth place is occupied by 'Harbin,' starring Hyun Bin. The movie was viewed by 27,105 people on the 28th, with a cumulative audience of 4,669,186. The break-even point for the film is approximately 6.5 million viewers.
Directed by Woo Minho, known for 'Inside Men' (2015) and 'The Man Standing Next' (2020), the film dramatizes the historic assassination of Ito Hirobumi, the first governor-general of the Japanese colonial government, by Ahn Junggeun. It portrays the struggles of Ahn Junggeun and other independence activists as they plot to eliminate Ito, while also delving into Ahn’s emotional journey throughout the process. Hyun Bin plays Ahn Junggeun, alongside a cast that includes Park Jungmin, Jo Woojin, Lee Dongwook, Park Hoon, and Jeon Yeo Been.
