Prosecutors have detained and indicted a woman in her 20s for allegedly stalking a well-known songwriter. The investigation revealed that the woman impersonated the songwriter and sent threatening messages to a colleague at the songwriter’s agency, THEBLACKLABEL.
Between March and June of 2024, the suspect posted dozens of blog entries impersonating the well-known songwriter. She also sent direct messages to the songwriter’s personal social media accounts as part of her stalking activities.
In addition, the suspect repeatedly sent threatening texts to other employees at THEBLACKLABEL and spread false information to investors, claiming that "there are issues within the company."
During police questioning, the suspect admitted to the accusations but insisted that she was, in fact, a songwriter employed by the agency. However, according to the police, she failed to provide any credible evidence to support this claim.
Initially, the police referred the suspect to prosecutors without placing her under detention, charging her with four offenses, including stalking. However, the prosecution took the unusual step of detaining and formally indicting her. This move appears to be a preventive measure aimed at stopping further offenses, given the suspect's history of similar crimes.
Although stalking crimes targeting celebrities are common, they rarely result in prison sentences.
In a previous case, a woman in her 50s was charged with stalking singer and actress Jung Eun Ji by lurking near her home, following her vehicle, and sending her hundreds of messages. However, she was sentenced to one year in prison with a two-year suspended sentence. This means the woman won't serve any prison time unless she commits another crime over the two-year probation period.
Recent statistics show that only 16.4% of stalking cases result in actual imprisonment, compared to 30.5% for other criminal cases.
Attorney Kim Bong Woo stated, "There is a high risk of repeat offenses and a significant chance that the offender's behavior could escalate. Given the potential danger, stricter punishments are necessary."
In response to concerns about lenient penalties, the Sentencing Commission of the Supreme Court introduced guidelines in March that recommend prison terms of up to five years for stalking-related crimes.
Some Korean netizens are claiming that this suspect is the same anti-fan who spread false rumors about BLACKPINK's Jennie. One netizen explained, "Someone who had been impersonating The Black Label producer 24 and relentlessly spreading all sorts of rumors about Jennie on Nate Pann almost daily since 2021 has finally been caught, LOL. No wonder I stopped seeing those crazy Jennie posts suddenly around mid-to-late 2024. So satisfying, LOL." The netizen expressed shock as they believed the individual would be a middle-aged woman but was a young woman in her 20s.
Other netizens also joined the community to share their thoughts on this issue and also expressed shock. They commented:
"Karma at its finest. I’m a fan of another group, but congrats! I was thrilled when that Soyang lady who harassed Jang Wonyoung to death got what she deserved and hit rock bottom, and now they’ve finally caught the crazy Jennie troll too. It really seems like you get what you deserve if you live doing wrong things, LOL. Huge respect to Jennie fans who endured it all—congrats!"
"OMG, I’m not even a fan, and I’m so happy, LOL. I kept wondering when that lunatic would disappear while reading posts on EnterTalk."
"Isn’t her name Bae So Hyun? Not sure if that’s her real name... I thought she was an older lady, but she’s in her 20s? Shocking… She used to leave weird comments under YouTube videos too. I don’t know if the profile picture was actually her, but her face gave off a nasty vibe."
"OMG!!! No way, LOL. I thought she was an old man, but she’s a young woman? Does she have schizophrenia or something? Please don’t let her get off easy for claiming mental illness. Seeing this makes me think Tori Mom is better off playing alone. When someone like that gets obsessed with an idol, they flood everything with rumors, LOL."
"No wonder it’s been so quiet lately. Every time good news about Jennie came out, she’d go crazy and throw a fit, but it got so quiet I was starting to wonder, LOL. Seriously, this is such great news."
"I hope her face gets exposed. I’ve been wishing she’d get covered on The Story of That Day Y or Unanswered Questions. I hope someone does an investigation on her."
"A woman in her 20s... LOL. Ugh, the whole 'women vs. women' thing is just exhausting..."
"Those posts she kept writing always annoyed me—it’s about time this happened."
"No wonder things have been quiet lately, haha. Seriously, Jennie must have gone through so much since her debut. Hope she gets hit with some serious karmic payback!"
