South Korean actress Bae Seul Ki and her husband, YouTuber Shim Lee Seob, have taken legal action after receiving death threats that prompted police to intervene at their home.
On January 9, Bae Seul Ki’s agency, Chan Entertainment, issued an official statement: “We are devastated by the recent death threats directed at actress Bae Seul Ki and her husband. We have decided to proceed with strong legal measures to address this matter.”
The threats first came to light when malicious posts targeting Bae, Shim, and their family were uploaded to an online community. In an interview with Xports News, Bae revealed, “I wasn’t aware of the posts since I don’t follow online communities. A few days ago, the police unexpectedly came to our home and informed me about the situation. It was shocking.”
She expressed gratitude to the person who reported the threats and shared how severe the situation had become. “The content was serious enough to warrant immediate police intervention. As a precaution, I even canceled plans to take my baby to a medical appointment,” she explained.
Bae also disclosed that the threats extended beyond herself and her husband, even targeting their young child. “At first, I was just angry. But after consulting with my husband and our agency, we realized the severity of the situation. We’ve ignored hate comments before, understanding that not everyone will like us. However, this time, the threats were extreme, and our safety was at stake,” she said.
The couple decided to take action to protect their family. “Although the original posts have been deleted, my husband received reports about them. He has already filed a lawsuit through his attorney,” Bae stated.
Chan Entertainment emphasized their zero-tolerance approach, stating, “We are working with law enforcement to track down those responsible for these malicious posts and comments. We will hold them accountable under the full extent of the law.”
The agency also noted that some individuals are attempting to evade responsibility by deleting posts or deactivating accounts. However, the agency has collected evidence and is collaborating with platform operators to ensure justice. They reiterated their commitment to ongoing legal action.

Bae Seul Ki, who married Shim Lee Seob in November 2020, recently celebrated the birth of their first child, a son, in October 2024. The couple had received warm congratulations from the public before this troubling incident.
