On December 31, RIIZE's agency, SM Entertainment, announced through the official fan community platform Weverse that the group's fan event, originally scheduled for January 4, 2025, has been postponed to February 8, 2025, in light of the tragic Jeju Air crash on December 29.
The statement from SM Entertainment expressed, “In remembrance of those who lost their lives in the tragic Jeju Air passenger plane crash, we would like to inform you that the ‘R.B.R. DAY – FOR NEW YEAR’ event scheduled for January 4, 2025, at 2 PM and 7 PM will be rescheduled to February 8, 2025, at 2 PM and 7 PM.” The agency further acknowledged that the announcement of additional winners for the event would also be delayed, with further details to be shared in due course.
“We kindly ask for your understanding during this difficult time,” the statement continued. “Our deepest condolences go out to the victims and their families affected by this tragic incident.”
Initially planned to take place at KBS Arena on January 4, the ‘R.B.R. DAY – FOR NEW YEAR’ special fan event for the RIIZE fan club will now be held in February due to the national mourning. The tragic accident occurred on the morning of December 29, when Jeju Air flight 7C2216, attempting to land at Muan International Airport, crashed and collided with the airport’s outer wall. According to the National Fire Agency, the flight was carrying 181 people, including six crew members, 173 South Korean passengers, and two Thai passengers. The accident resulted in 179 fatalities, with only two survivors.
In response, the South Korean government has announced a seven-day national mourning period, which will end at midnight on January 4, 2025. Authorities are focused on recovering the victims and identifying the cause of the disaster.
