The '2024 KBS Song Festival Global Festival' (hereafter referred to as "KBS Song Festival") has decided to cancel its planned photo wall event amid the ongoing fallout from President Yoon Suk Yeol's martial law crisis.
According to an exclusive report by Starnews Korea on December 13, the festival, scheduled to take place on December 20, was originally set to include a photo wall event before the main ceremony. However, due to the political instability stemming from President Yoon’s declaration of martial law, the decision was made to forego the event.
Initially, KBS had intended to proceed with the event as planned, reasoning that the festival’s location in Ilsan, Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, would likely be unaffected by protests. The photo wall was planned as a simplified version of the usual red carpet-event, focusing solely on photo opportunities for artists without interviews or other activities.
However, following the cancellation of the red carpet event for the '2024 KBS Entertainment Awards'—scheduled for December 21—due to large-scale protests in Yeouido and the broader implications of the impeachment crisis, the organizers of the 'KBS Song Festival' opted to prioritize the main ceremony by canceling the photo wall.
Meanwhile, this year’s 'KBS Song Festival' features a unique dual-location format. On December 14 and 15, the '2024 Music Bank Global Festival' in Japan will take place at Mizuho PayPay Dome FUKUOKA.
This event will be broadcast on KBS 2TV at 8:30 PM KST on December 19. The Korean leg of the festival, 2024 KBS Song Festival Global Festival, will be aired live on December 20 from 8:30 PM KST for 180 minutes on KBS 2TV.
