A Korean drama has made headlines for surpassing the long-running popular program MBC’s 'I Live Alone' to claim the top spot as the "Most Liked Program by Koreans" for the first time. The survey results reflect the growing popularity of this drama among viewers.
JTBC's weekend drama 'The Tale of Lady Ok' ranked first in Gallup Korea's December 2024 survey for "Koreans’ Favorite Broadcast and Video Program."
Gallup Korea surveyed 1,000 people aged 18 and older nationwide between December 17 and 19, asking them to name up to two of their favorite current programs. JTBC's weekend drama 'The Tale of Lady Ok' recorded a 4.0% preference rate, securing the top spot among all programs.
'The Tale of Lady Ok,' which premiered on JTBC on November 30, stars actress Lim Ji Yeon in dual roles as Gu Deok Yi and Ok Tae Young. The story follows the clever servant Gu Deok Yi (Lim Ji Yeon), who unexpectedly assumes the identity of a noblewoman, Ok Tae Young, and becomes a lawyer fighting against entrenched customs and injustices.
In second place for "Koreans’ Favorite Broadcast and Video Program" was MBC’s variety show 'I Live Alone,' which recorded a 2.9% preference rate. The show is a representative long-running program that frequently ranks high in Gallup Korea's surveys.
KBS 2TV's weekend drama 'Iron Family' was in third place, starring Kim Jung Hyun and Geum Sae Rok, with a 2.5% preference rate.
Other programs in the rankings include tvN's variety show 'You Quiz on the Block' in fourth place with 2.4%, and KBS 2TV's variety show '2 Days & 1 Night Season 4' in fifth with 2.2%.
MBC’s Friday-Saturday drama 'When the Phone Rings,' starring Yoo Yeon Seok and Chae Soo Bin, placed sixth with 2.1%. SBS's variety show 'Running Man' ranked seventh with 2.0%, while SBS's Friday-Saturday drama 'The Fiery Priest 2,' starring Kim Nam Gil and Lee Ha Nee, and ENA SBS Plus's variety show 'I Am SOLO' shared eighth place with 1.9%. TV Chosun's variety show 'Miss Trot 3' rounded out the top 10 with 1.6%.
Since January 2013, Gallup Korea has conducted monthly surveys to identify "Koreans’ Favorite TV Programs." Recently, with the rapid increase in online video service users and the diversification of video content distribution channels, the boundaries between TV programs and web content, as well as between traditional broadcast channels and online video services, have become blurred. To reflect these changes, Gallup Korea expanded the survey scope in 2023 to include programs available on online video platforms as well as traditional TV.
