2AM’s Jo Kwon recalls emotional first music show win: “I cried so much I almost passed out”.
2AM member Jo Kwon shared his emotional experience of winning his first music show award during the December 16 episode of the web variety show “JOSHINHAGAE(Gracefully)”, where Lovelyz members Yoo Ji Ae and Jeong Ye In appeared as guests.
During a balance game, Yoo Ji Ae chose “24 hours Angry” over “24 hours Cry,” saying, “It’d be too hard to be around someone crying all the time.” Jo Kwon then asked if she was someone who rarely cries, to which she replied, “I don’t cry much, even when I watch sad movies.”
Jo Kwon brought up the topic of music show wins, asking if she cried when Lovelyz won their first award. Yoo Ji Ae admitted, “I cried that time. Seeing our fans in tears made me emotional.”
Sharing his own experience, Jo Kwon revealed, “When 2AM won for ‘Can’t Let You Go Even If I Die,’ I cried so hard I almost passed out. Our first win came late, and we were often compared to 2PM, which was difficult for us. Since 2PM is a performance group, they naturally received more attention.”
He continued, “At the time, our rival was Girls’ Generation’s ‘Oh!’, so we didn’t expect to win. When we were announced as the winners, I cried so much that my nose ran like a waterfall.”
Jo Kwon then asked Yoo Ji Ae if she cried uncontrollably when Lovelyz won. She agreed, “I cried a lot, especially seeing our fans in tears.” Jo Kwon laughed, adding, “When I see others cry, I cry too,” though Yoo Ji Ae jokingly failed to relate, bringing laughter to the set.
2AM debuted in 2008 and won their first music show award on SBS’s 'Inkigayo' in February 2010 with “Can’t Let You Go Even If I Die.” The group took different paths after contract expirations in 2015 but reunited in 2022 and continues activities as a full group.
