Yulhee, a former member of the group LABOUM, who previously exposed personal issues involving her ex-husband, FTISLAND member Minhwan, has filed for custody of their children, alimony, and division of assets.

According to the legal community on November 4th, Yulhee submitted an application for mediation to the Seoul Family Court to request a change in custody, as well as alimony and asset division.

Yulhee claims that during her divorce settlement with Minhwan last year, proper discussions regarding alimony or asset division did not take place. At the time of their divorce, custody of the children was granted to Minhwan. Yulhee’s latest legal actions are seen as a sign of her intention to belatedly address these matters through formal procedures.

Under civil law, even if custody arrangements are established at the time of divorce, they can be changed if deemed necessary for the welfare of the children. According to Yulhee’s side, asset division can be claimed within two years from the date of divorce, and alimony within three years.

In a YouTube video released on October 24th, Yulhee stated, “The only way to get a fair settlement was through a lawsuit, but I was too exhausted. I didn’t have the energy to fight [Choi Minhwan], nor did I have the information or connections for advice.” Regarding her decision not to seek alimony or asset division initially, she explained, “I left without taking any money, thinking that the funds would be better for the children. It was genuinely for their sake.”

Yulhee and Minhwan married in October 2018 after welcoming a son in May of the same year. In February 2020, the couple had twin daughters, bringing their total to three children. However, after five years of marriage, the couple divorced last year. While the reasons for their divorce had not been disclosed, Yulhee recently claimed in a YouTube video (posted on October 24th) that Minhwan frequented adult entertainment establishments during their marriage, leading to growing calls for Choi to be held responsible for the marriage breakdown.

Following the personal controversy, Minhwan announced a suspension of his activities through his agency on October 25th, just one day after Yulhee’s video was released. 

Additionally, a public petition was filed requesting an investigation into Minhwan for alleged violations of the Anti-Prostitution Act. On November 4th, the police stated, “Choi Minhwan has not yet been officially booked.” Police insiders suggest that an investigation into Yulhee’s claims will likely need to proceed before any further action is taken.
