Singer Lee Sang Soon expressed his affection for vintage items on his radio show.
On November 13th, MBC FM 4U 91.9’s 'A Perfect Day with Lee Sang Soon' aired at 4 p.m. Lee opened the show by introducing Euljiro, a historic area known as “Hipjiro” among Gen Z. Originally a hub for printing presses dating back to the early Joseon Dynasty in 1403, Euljiro was once home to over 5,500 print-related businesses.
Lee remarked, “The sound of printing presses during the day and the lively crowds at night create endless memories in this area. When I was younger, old items were considered outdated, but now I see young people deliberately seeking them out, and it’s truly cool.”
Lee shared how he noticed the growing interest in vintage items among younger people, saying, “When I moved, I often visited shops to buy vintage furniture. There are many videos on YouTube of young people showcasing their homes with vintage furniture. I think it’s great that interest in vintage is growing.”
He mentioned that vintage furniture and instruments are particularly expensive, noting with a smile, “As more people look for them, prices are going up. I have instruments that have increased in value over time, and that makes me feel proud.”
One listener shared a story about borrowing a Kim Kwang Jin cassette tape from a friend 20 years ago and asked, “Should I apologize or thank them when I return it?” Guest Thomas Cook replied with concern, saying, “If too much time passes, you might not get the chance to say sorry or thank you.” Lee reassured the listener, adding, “Your friend might be thrilled to get it back. That cassette’s value has probably gone up over the years.”
Thomas Cook also joked, “Since it’s been 20 years, maybe check on your health first, and ask if your friend is doing well too.”
In his show’s opening, Lee often introduces nostalgic travel spots. He previously shared memories of Dalmaji Hill in Busan and Amsterdam in the Netherlands.
After a 12-year break, Lee returned to radio on November 4th with 'A Perfect Day with Lee Sang Soon'. He previously hosted 'Rollercoaster's Listen up!' on SBS Power FM in 2003 and 'Lee Sang Soon’s World Music Journey' on EBS Radio in 2011.
'A Perfect Day with Lee Sang Soon' airs daily on MBC FM 4U 91.9 from 4 to 6 p.m.
