Chef Triple Star (real name Kang Seung Won), who gained fame from the Netflix show 'Culinary Class Wars,' is now embroiled in a new controversy. Unlike previous allegations about his personal life, this latest issue involves embezzlement charges, raising serious legal concerns.
On October 31, a post titled “Triple Star Accused of Occupational Embezzlement, Police Investigation Requested” appeared on an online community forum on DC Inside. The post’s author, "A," claimed to have formally filed a report against Triple Star with the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul for alleged embezzlement. The poster also shared screenshots of their formal complaint filed through the South Korean government’s civil service portal.
The controversy began on October 30, when former entertainment reporter and YouTuber Lee Jin Ho released a video on his channel detailing accusations by Triple Star’s ex-wife, identified as “B.” In the video, Lee Jin Ho explained that B discovered that Triple Star had allegedly transferred restaurant funds to his family, which ultimately led to their divorce.
In their post, A emphasized that if these claims are true, Triple Star’s actions could constitute embezzlement under Article 356 of the Criminal Code. A stated that the transfer of public funds to his family demonstrates an intent for “illegal gain” on Kang Seung Won’s part. Furthermore, A highlighted that since Triple Star and B were in a common-law relationship, they do not qualify as legal relatives. Therefore, the legal provision of “kinship immunity,” which exempts relatives from criminal liability in cases of misappropriation, does not apply.
The allegations have quickly spread across online communities, sparking further controversy and criticism toward Triple Star. Many speculate that the trust and reputation he built through 'Culinary Class Wars' could suffer irreparable damage due to these accusations.
Triple Star has yet to release an official statement regarding the allegations. Should the embezzlement charges be proven true, it could severely impact his career in both broadcasting and the culinary world.
