Yang Jae Woong is facing additional legal action related to a patient’s death.
According to report on October 21st KST, the family of A, who passed away on May 27th after being admitted to W Jin Hospital, has filed a lawsuit against Yang Jae Woong, accusing him of involuntary manslaughter due to professional negligence.
Previously, the family had only pursued charges of negligence leading to death against A’s attending physician, nurse, and nursing assistant, accusing the hospital of failing to provide proper emergency care when A complained of abdominal pain. Yang Jae Woong had only been accused of violating medical laws for falsifying medical records. However, this new lawsuit alleges that Yang failed to take sufficient measures to prevent A’s death.
The family also claims that Yang spread false information in a media interview. A’s mother, B, stated, “The autopsy results showed that no phentermine was found in my daughter’s blood, but Yang mentioned in the interview that ‘the cause of death was essentially phentermine poisoning,’ which is a false statement.”
Yang’s legal representative clarified in an interview: “Phentermine was not detected because the patient had not taken it after being admitted to the hospital. The abnormal behavior the patient exhibited was suspected to be due to phentermine addiction.”
Yang Jae Woong has been requested to testify at the National Assembly’s Health and Welfare Committee hearing on October 23rd KST, raising questions about whether he will appear and what stance he will take.
In the aftermath of the incident, Yang Jae Woong has postponed his September wedding to EXID member Hani. He also stepped down from his regular appearance on MBC FM4U’s Kim Eana’s 'Starry Night', and Hani has voluntarily withdrawn from JTBC4’s new variety show 'Review 4 Cut'.
