On September 12 KST, director Park Bum Soo, actresses Hyeri and Park Se Wan, and president Lee Ahn Na of ANNAPURNAFILMS appeared at a special showing and guest visit event for the film 'Victory'.
Earlier this week, 'Victory' garnered attention by rising to #1 in box office rankings, approximately a month after its release on August 14. While some looked to the enthusiastic promotion efforts of the film's stars, Hyeri and Park Se Wan, as the cause of the unexpected scores, others raised speculations of 'sajaegi', or intentional bulk purchasing of tickets to manipulate box office scores.
In response, the film's distributor Mind Mark commented, "In light of the upcoming Chuseok holidays, some companies and organizations are renting out theaters to hold corporate events during the weekdays. It appears this is the cause of the increase in audience numbers."
Meanwhile, co-stars Hyeri and Park Se Wan have been avidly promoting their film by holding greeting events with moviegoers for the past month. During her guest visit at Megabox Coex on September 12, Hyeri stated, "This film faced a lot of tough trials from the beginning. But I'm so proud of it. I hope that you will understand my sincerity. Many people said such good things about the film after watching it, and that encouraged me. I wanted to visit as many audiences as possible because of that. I did my best to visit as many movie theaters as possible, and promoted the film at every opportunity I could. 'Victory' is a film that gifted me with so many emotions. It is a film that brings me to tears. These tears are tears of disappointment, joy, and frustration." Seemingly hinting at the film's recent 'bulk purchasing' accusations, Hyeri shed tears in front of the audience.
A youth music drama, 'Victory' tells the story of two friends, Pil Sun (Hyeri) and Mina (Park Se Wan), who pick up cheerleading to cheer on the world and themselves.
