BLACKPINK’s Jennie to appear on Kim Tae Ho’s variety show ‘My Name is Gabriel’.
On September 3 KST, it was revealed that BLACKPINK member Jennie recently completed filming for the JTBC variety show ‘My Name is Gabriel’ (shortened to ‘Gabriel’). The episodes featuring Jennie are scheduled to air over two weeks on Friday, September 27, and Friday, October 4 KST.
Rumors about Jennie’s appearance on ‘Gabriel’ surfaced early on, but her agency initially stated that she had declined the offer to focus on album production. Kim Tae Ho PD had also mentioned, during the earlier announcement of the star-studded cast including actors Park Bo Gum and Ji Chang Wook, that “we did offer Jennie a role, but nothing has been confirmed yet, so we’re cautious.”
According to entertainment industry insiders, Jennie was deeply considering whether to participate in a variety show, especially one that focuses on solo activities rather than her music career. Having previously appeared on tvN’s variety show ‘Apartment 404’ from February to April, she felt some pressure about announcing back-to-back solo variety show appearances ahead of BLACKPINK’s full-group activities.
Recently, it was confirmed that all BLACKPINK members—Jennie, Lisa, Rosé, and Jisoo—will be reuniting for a full-group comeback and world tour in 2025 under YG Entertainment. With the continuity of BLACKPINK as a group secured, Jennie seems to feel less pressure about her solo activities as an artist.
‘My Name is Gabriel’ is a show where participants live the life of an unknown person among the 8 billion people in the world for 72 hours, experiencing “the actual life of that person.” The show features a diverse cast, including actors Park Bo Gum, Yum Hye Ran, Ji Chang Wook, as well as entertainers like Park Myung Soo, Hong Jin Kyung, YouTuber Dex, and dancer Gabee, each portraying different lives. The program airs every Friday at 10:30 PM.
