Actress Chun Woo Hee graces the cover of W Korea fashion magazine.
Chun Woo Hee has adorned the cover of the ‘W Korea’ fashion magazine. For its 2024 edition, the magazine featured 10 decisive actors from upcoming Netflix series under the theme “Best Performances with Netflix” for its Vol. 9 cover.
On the cover, Chun Woo Hee is seen wearing a double-layered cardigan that exudes autumn vibes, gazing deeply into the camera lens. A monitor placed beside her captures a close-up of her eyes, creating a unique atmosphere where the audience can feel the intensity of the actor’s gaze.
In the interview that accompanied the photo shoot, Chun Woo Hee was asked how she approaches characters that are difficult to understand or empathize with. She responded, “An actor doesn’t necessarily need to find common ground or have a connection with the character to perform. Most of the characters I’ve chosen so far have often been unlike me or displayed contrasting qualities, which attracted me to them. However, upon reflection, there’s always some aspect of the character that resonates with me. For example, in ‘The Eight Show,’ the character Sera, who is difficult to empathize with overall, is a performance artist who explores human desires and instincts through pure stimulation. Similarly, as an actor, I also have a deep yearning to provide catharsis to the audience. This is where I find the meeting point with characters I initially thought were entirely different from me.”
When asked about the fundamental reason she acts, Chun Woo Hee said, “I think it’s because I felt lacking and incomplete as a person, and I wanted to absorb the lives of others. I’ve always believed that experiencing other people’s lives and working with many people on set helps me expand and grow.” She further added, “But the more I act, the more I realize that it’s a process of getting to know myself. Understanding others actually helps me understand myself better. Through repeated self-reflection, I’ve come to realize that I’m most curious about myself.”
This year marks Chun Woo Hee’s 20th anniversary since her debut. She had a significant first half of the year with her performances in Netflix’s ‘The Eight Show’ and JTBC’s ‘I Am Not a Hero’ gaining global recognition. Recently, she confirmed her role in the drama ‘My Youth’ (working title), where she is set to portray a first love romance alongside Song Joong Ki.
More of Chun Woo Hee’s photo shoot and the full interview can be found in ‘W Korea’ Vol. 9 and on the official website.
