After a four-week hiatus, KBS2's variety show 'Dogs Are Incredible' is set to resume broadcasting without its main host, Kang Hyung Wook. This decision comes amidst allegations of abuse and workplace harassment involving Kang Hyung Wook and his wife, Susan Elder, at Boeun Company.
According to Yonhap News on June 11, a 'Dogs Are Incredible representative stated, "We resumed filming last week, but it's too early to talk about Kang Hyung Wook's return. We are not resuming the show with his absence in mind." The representative added, "We sought Kang Hyung Wook's understanding and received a response indicating his comprehension."
The controversy began when former employees of Boeun Company, where Kang Hyung Wook is the CEO, accused him of abuse, workplace harassment, and neglect of pets. Some ex-employees claimed that Kang monitored them via CCTV and subjected them to verbal abuse. Kang Hyung Wook has denied these allegations through his YouTube channel and announced plans for legal action.
Additionally, both Kang Hyung Wook and Susan Elder are currently facing lawsuits for violating the Information and Communications Network Act. Kang has denied most of the accusations, including the use of CCTV for surveillance, and stated his intention to take legal action against false claims. Susan Elder admitted to reviewing some internal messages from employees, explaining that this was due to inappropriate content found in the messages.
KBS initially decided to halt the show to await Kang Hyung Wook's statement. However, as the allegations remain unresolved, the network chose to proceed on with the show without him. Starting on June 17, comedians Lee Kyung Kyu and former golfer and broadcaster Park Se Ri will feature on 'Dogs Are Incredible.'
However, the show faces further complications as Park Se Ri's father has been accused of forgery by the Park Se Ri Hope Foundation, leading to public conflict between the two.
'Dogs Are Incredible' will air every Monday at 8:55 PM, and it remains to be seen how the program will be affected by its four-week hiatus and the ongoing controversies.
