An unknown comedian has become a hot topic after revealing that he saves 30 million KRW (~21,592.21 USD) every month.
On June 19, a video was posted on the YouTube channel 'Hwang Yerang.'
The video featured KBS open recruitment comedian Jung Seung Bin. Jung Seung Bin introduced himself as a 32-year-old comedian, YouTube creator, and self-employed businessman.
He started YouTube in 2018 and has been a YouTuber for six years, running the channel 'Kkaebangjeong' with over 820,000 subscribers.
When asked why he started his YouTube channel, he responded, "Most comedians started after 'Gag Concert' was canceled in 2022. I began in 2018 after seeing the success of other unknown comedian friends on YouTube."
When asked about his annual income, Jung Seung Bin revealed, "On average, it’s about 500 to 600 million KRW (360,000 to 432,000 USD)," which surprised many.
He explained, "Since 2018, I have grown my Facebook page, so the income from Facebook is more than from YouTube. The revenue from the pages uploaded to any platform is about that amount."
Jung Seung Bin stated, "My income varies from month to month, but I save at least 30 million KRW (22,000 USD) every month."
He emphasized, "I once heard that earning money is important, but keeping it is even more important. I live by that."
He continued, "I earned a lot now compared to three years ago. Back then, I often had no money, but now I am much more comfortable. I used to spend a lot without thinking. Now, I set aside 3 to 4 million KRW (2,200 to 3,000 USD) monthly for living expenses and save everything else."
He humorously added that the largest portion of his living expenses goes to 'Baedal Minjok' (a food delivery service).
Jung Seun Bin mentioned that his total assets amount to about 1.5 billion KRW (1.1 million USD) and that he drives a Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS worth approximately 280 million KRW (202,000 USD).
He explained, "It's currently for sale. I’ve had it for almost a year, but I realized it's pointless (to own a sports car)."
Regarding his future goals, he stated, "I'm a comedian by profession. I want to do comedy as a hobby."
He said, "I suffered performing without pay for 5 to 6 years after joining a theater group in high school, and then I found success on YouTube. When a hobby becomes a job, the pressure to perform can make you dislike it. If I had more money, I could do comedy casually without stress, without worrying about the results, and without being upset."
Lastly, Jung Seung Bin shared his secret to success, "Things go well when you always feel a sense of crisis. Once you accomplish your plan and think 'I did it,' things often go wrong. I think it's because you lose that sense of crisis. You must always be aware that you can slip to do well."
Meanwhile, Jung Seung Bin, a KBS 29th open recruitment comedian, gained attention in the past for his parody character 'Gungri,' modeled after former Big Bang member Seungri.
He has also drawn attention with satirical content on YouTube, parodying 'car poor,' 'selfie fraud,' and 'internet broadcast BJ.' In May, he won the Creator Award at the 2024 Korean Wave Influencer Awards.
It can happen that quickly but you do need some luck
