The same people always host the Award Shows: Where’s the Switch Up?

The annual festivities are upon us once again, and we're kicking things off with the Baeksang Arts Awards 2024, which will be held on May 7, 2024.

Recently, it was revealed that Shin Dong Yup, Suzy, and Park Bo Gum will be returning as hosts for this year's award show. Notably, this isn't their first stint together; this trio also helmed the ceremonies last year and in 2022. Prior to that, in 2021, the hosting duties were shared by Shin Dong Yup and Suzy. The announcement of their return has been met with positive reactions, as many are pleased to see them team up once again. However, the recurrence of the same hosts at the same award shows is not an uncommon practice.

In addition to the Baeksang Arts Awards, the Blue Dragon Awards consistently feature the popular duo of Kim Hye Soo and Yoo Yeon Seok as hosts. This trend of repeated hosting partnerships extends to various end-of-year music festivities as well. While it's clear that these pairings are chosen for their excellent on-stage chemistry, which undoubtedly contributes to the smooth flow and engagement of the ceremonies, introducing new hosts could offer a refreshing change.

Indeed, the hosts play a pivotal role in setting the tone and enhancing the atmosphere of these prestigious events. Their interactions, timing, and how they engage both the live audience and viewers at home significantly influence the overall experience of the ceremony. It's not just the anticipation of the guest list that excites the audience; the dynamic presence and style of the hosts are equally crucial. A fresh hosting lineup could not only bring new energy but also attract different viewer demographics, adding a new dimension to the traditional charm of these celebrated award ceremonies. This might be an exciting prospect for regular attendees and viewers who look forward to these events as highlights of the cultural calendar.

Certainly, there's no critique of the stars themselves intended, but perhaps the awkwardness witnessed during many award shows stems from the fact that idols and actors, typically chosen for their popularity rather than their hosting prowess, often lack sufficient experience in this role. Consequently, their presentations can sometimes come across as stiff and robotic, quite in contrast to those who are seasoned hosts, familiar with managing the dynamics of live events.

A prime example of a skilled host is Shin Dong Yup. Known for his effortless command over live audiences, Shin Dong Yup exemplifies what it means to be a natural at hosting. His ability to seamlessly weave comments with well-timed humor not only entertains but also puts both the audience and fellow attendees at ease, creating a relaxed and engaging atmosphere. His expertise highlights the difference that professional hosting can make to the success of an event, underscoring the potential benefits of choosing hosts who bring both experience and a natural flair to the stage.

So, why not have professional emcees or comedians like Jang Do Yeon host more award shows? Take the time she paired up with ZICO to present an award, for example. Their presentation was fun, clever, and comedic, yet completely professional, showcasing how a skilled host can make a segment memorable.

Additionally, talented idols such as Super Junior's Kim Heechul and SHINee's Key have shown they're naturals at hosting. Their ability to engage and energize audiences suggests they would do well leading bigger ceremonies too. They know how to create a joyful atmosphere, ensuring that everyone, from the stars to the attendees, has a great time. Such engaging hosts can significantly enhance the overall experience, making each award show not just a celebration of achievements but also a truly enjoyable event.

Repeatedly featuring the same lineup of hosts at award ceremonies can quickly become monotonous, making a strong case for refreshing the roster with new faces and talents. Introducing different hosts each year could invigorate these events, injecting fresh energy and potentially drawing in a broader audience. Diverse hosting styles and personalities can add new dimensions to the ceremonies, keeping them vibrant and engaging year after year.

However, opinions on this may vary, and it's essential to consider different perspectives. Do you think it would be more beneficial to switch up the host lineups annually? What are your thoughts on how changes in hosting can impact the appeal and success of award shows? Your insights could provide valuable viewpoints on whether these ceremonies should stick to tried-and-tested hosts or embrace new ones for a change of pace.

I noticed in the Korean entertainment industry and TV in general is very hard for new faces to get a chance,it's very exclusive, seem studying media and hosting is a waste of time in Korea
