American singer and actor MAX sat down with the media to discuss his recent album, music journey, and working with K-Pop artists during his press conference in Manila.
His recent record, 'LOVE IN STEREO,' boasts 12 songs, and one of them is the viral "STUPID IN LOVE" featuring LE SSERAFIM's Yunjin. "She's so amazing. She's such a wonderful person. She's so sweet. She's so talented and a great songwriter. We really did just get along so well. Felt like little sister, big brother energy. I'm so honored that she joined the song. I always wanted a female voice, and the universe just sent Huh Yunjin my way," he said.
Recently from his trip to Seoul, MAX danced to the collaboration single "Stupid In Love" next to Yunjin herself.
When asked which other K-Pop artists he likes at the moment, he mentioned his love for ZEROBASEONE. "I'd say ZEROBASEONE is a group that I really love. They're awesome right now," he said. "I love the new song, ILLIT's 'Magnetic,'" MAX added.
He also reflected on BTS's Jungkook's cover when asked about the moment he was introduced to K-Pop. "He sang a song of mine called 'One More Weekend.' Jungkook sang it live. I was like, 'Who's this guy? His voice is amazing.'"
The artist is currently on his tour, and before heading to Manila, he staged a solo show in South Korea where Yunjin joined him on stage for "STUPID IN LOVE." "There's nothing I love more than performing live. I love to hear the fans sing along with me and connect through it. It gives me light and energy," he stated.
MAX is also known in the industry for his hit collaboration single with SUGA from BTS for "Blueberry Eyes." For him, working with SUGA was life-changing. "It was beautiful when we first met. We were sitting in a room and bonding over basketball," he shared. "I wrote my part and he joined 'Blueberry Eyes.' And honestly, often the collaborations happen just like that. It's natural. We meet somehow, we get along. It's nice to be part of such incredible music and artists."
When collaborating with other musicians, he always reminds himself to fall in love with music. "I want to give the best to them," he said. On the other hand, when creating crafts for himself, sometimes, he can be hard on himself. MAX added, "I think that it actually influences me to enjoy it a little bit more and just make sure that I am authentic and vulnerable to storytelling and hope that it connects with somebody who's going to do the same."
On his advice to those who are going to pursue a career in the industry, he thinks that it's best to find your superpowers, adding, "I think that the things you're insecure about, sometimes, those are your superpowers. Accept and love yourself. The sooner you do, the more you thrive."
