The Chinese remake of the acclaimed Korean movie 'The Night Owl' is in the works.

On April 9 KST, the investment and distribution company Next Entertainment World announced the signing of a copyright contract for the Chinese adaptation of 'The Night Owl', directed by Ahn Tae Jin. This agreement marks a significant milestone as it represents the highest-ever sale of remake rights for a Korean film in China.

A prominent Chinese entertainment company, active across various content sectors, has acquired the remake rights and is currently gearing up for production. Next Entertainment World, in turn, anticipates additional revenue streams through box office distribution shares in the event of a successful theatrical run.

Originally released in November 2022, 'The Night Owl' garnered widespread acclaim for its gripping narrative and stellar performances by Ryu Joon Yeol and Yoo Hae Jin, under the skilled direction of Ahn Tae Jin. The film's compelling storyline resonated with audiences, leading to its triumph at prestigious award ceremonies such as the Baeksang Arts Awards and the Blue Dragon Film Awards. Additionally, it earned international recognition by participating in the competitive section of the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival.

Building on the success of Korean film adaptations in global markets, such as the Indonesian, Turkish, and Filipino versions of 'A Gift from Cell No. 7', as well as the ongoing Hollywood remake of 'Train to Busan', discussions are also underway for a Japanese adaptation of 'Hide and Seek'.
