Lee Soo Man, the former Chief Producer of SM Entertainment, has reportedly donated over 100 million won (approx. US$75,170) to finalize the closing of the Daehak-ro small theater Hakchon. According to singer Park Hak Gi and industry insiders on March 17, Soo Man generously contributed the funds to aid in the closure of Hakchon.
Park Hak Gi, who served as the general director for the farewell festival "Hakchon, Again Concert," mentioned this donation during the second performance of the Kim Min Gi tribute on the final day of the concert, March 14. While the exact amount was not disclosed at the time, it was described as a significant sum. As a token of gratitude, Hak Gi decided to gift Soo Man an LP album of the concert.
Soo Man's contribution comes at a critical time for Hakchon, which faced financial difficulties due to the illness of its representative, Kim Min Gi, and management issues. Soo Man, a respected figure in the folk music community and a junior from Seoul National University to Min Gi, has always held Min Gi in high esteem, referring to him affectionately as his older brother.
That's unfortunate, that theater has existed for several decades and is an icon of Seoul's vibrant Daehangno theater street
