A week ago, Kangnam posted a cover of the Dragon Ball Z opening theme, "CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LA," and revealed that he wanted to sing the song in remembrance of the legendary creator behind the popular series.
Dressed in the signature orange Gi worn by Goku, Kangnam began by sharing, "My friends in Japan contacted me and told me they're drinking together. So, I called them, and they were all crying. My friends never cry; even if they break up with their girlfriends they don't, but they were crying a lot. To be honest, I cried too, because Akira Toriyama suddenly passed away." Kangnam continued, "I was happy 80% of my life thanks to Dragon Ball," and said, "Toriyama sensei, thank you."
Before singing the song, Kangnam said, "So today, I want to give my heart and put all my Kamehameha to singing this song."
Kangnam's cover track recently garnered attention, as fans were impressed with Kangnam's singing skills.
Meanwhile, on March 8, it was reported that Akira Toriyama, the creator of 'Dragon Ball' and 'Dr. Slump', passed away from acute subdural hematoma, at the age of 68. Many fans, including numerous fans in South Korea, mourned the legendary manga artist and paid tribute in various online communities.
