Privacy invasion by sasaeng fans has become a significant concern for many celebrities, prompting them to speak out against these intrusive practices. On January 22, Jaejoong took to his social media account to issue a warning about sasaeng taxis, sharing his frustration and concern. He described instances of sasaeng taxis lurking in various areas, with drivers resorting to dangerous tactics. Jaejoong condemned these actions, emphasizing the emotional toll they take on individuals.
Members of EXO have also expressed their distress caused by sasaeng fans on multiple occasions. Baekhyun, for instance, posted on the fan community Bubble in March about his vocal lessons and his desire to focus on his studies without disruptions. He mentioned a sasaeng fan who had visited him, making it challenging to concentrate.
EXO's Sehun has dealt with a barrage of phone calls, with approximately 100 calls to his personal cell phone daily. Frustrated, he stated, "I don't change my number on purpose because even if I do, I still get calls, which is even more annoying."
BTS's V had a distressing encounter with a sasaeng fan who showed up at his house and handed him a marriage certificate. As a result, the fan is currently facing legal action for violating stalking laws. Additionally, Jungkook from BTS had to sternly warn sasaeng fans against sending food to his home, stating that he would take action if it happened again.
Big Hit Music, has taken a strong stance against stalking crimes that threaten the safety of their members, enforcing a zero-tolerance policy.
While there was once a tendency to view sasaeng behavior as excessive fandom, repeated complaints from celebrities about enduring sasaeng harassment for extended periods have shifted public perception. These actions are now regarded not as fan love but as criminal behavior. Despite the enactment of the Stalking Punishment Act and bans against sasaeng fans, the sasaeng culture has yet to disappear, leading to disappointment among many.
I've posted here before one time about this, but the kpop companies are the ones who create sasaeng behavior and they actually are aware of it. It is a byproduct of kpop companies wanting to create stans who will be very strongly attached to a group and therefore spend a lot of money. The way they create stans is by content that makes you feel you identify with one group, feel emotional attachment and feel superior to other groups. Because there's more and more content that feels very personal, like bubble, and fan phone calls talking face to face, live streaming and posting constantly on weverse, etc etc, those all help to form that stan connection. But when you become super attached to one person/group from constantly consuming up close personal content but it can never actually turn into anything real, I think your feelings can easily grow out of control because there is never any satisfaction. You crave more and more so you turn into a sasaeng, like crossing that line from a person who drinks often into a person who is an alcoholic.
