Netizens are engaging in debates about the possible popularity of AI idols.
On an online forum, netizens are discussing the future prospects of virtual idol groups, such as MAVE: and PLAVE. These AI-driven groups, which have already earned notable attention among K-pop fans, provoke questions about the viability and potential popularity of such AI idols in the future. Could they possibly attract substantial fanbases and generate high profits in the end?
In recent times, these "2D idols" have been increasingly in the spotlight, leading to a split in opinion among netizens. Some believe that as AI technology continues to advance rapidly, there's a possibility that these virtual characters could indeed become popular.
This thinking seems to come from the idea that virtual characters can be programmed not only to replicate human appearance but also to exhibit behaviors that could attract a significant following.
However, some argued that regardless of technological advancements, there will be a divide between artificial characters lack the human touch and existing idols, which is why "human fans can only truly love human idols."
On the other hand, many also added that only the collaborative AI-driven groups with human idols behind them, such as SUPERKIND, will succeed.
Netizens debated:
"I don't really like it..."
"Isn't it the same thing as liking an animated character? Why not?"
"I think because they have the visuals there's no reason for them to not earn money"
"I think once they start to look even more natural, they might succeed"
"They will succeed"
"Animes have succeeded so they will, too"
"It depends on the marketing and how natural their voices will sound"
"But isn't it impossible for them to constantly communicate with the fans directly?"
"There's no two-way communication so no, I don't think they can make it"
"I don't think human beings can really be duped to love AI idols...only human idols"
"It is possible for them to succeed. People can become attached to inanimate objects, so AI idols are no exception."
"If the song is good..."
"It depends whether the technology improves enough for them to autonomously communicate with the fans in a natural way"
"I like seeing idols in real life, so nope"
"It's going to succeed for sure. People get attached even to their robot vacuum..."
"AI is AI...they are too artificial"
"Time will tell"
What are your thoughts?
No. They literally have no personality and you can never meet them in person. Everything about them is fake, they are just 1s and 0s. I don't see the appeal. If you're only stanning them because of the music then looks shouldn't matter that much in the first place. At least I wanna know from whom the voices I enjoy and love so much REALLY come from. Stuff like Hatsune Miku and virtual idols are all nice and fun, but that's about it. Building a parasocial relationship with a virtual being and supporting them and "stanning" them is just... weird.
