A recent post on an online community forum about the grace and generosity of actor Choi Gwi Hwa has been garnering considerable attention among South Korean internet users.
Titled 'Thank You, Actor Choi Gwi Hwa,' the post was made by a user, referred to as 'A,' on the Bobae Dream forum on September 27.
'A' shared the story of their encounter with the actor, revealing, "I worked as a broadcast staff member for over a decade. Being a freelancer, taking any time off was always tantamount to financial loss, and I found myself working ceaselessly in order to support my sick mother."
The poster further recounted their experience working with Choi Gwi Hwa on a drama project, stating, "Even in the face of constant exhaustion from shooting, Senior Actor Choi Gwi Hwa was always genuinely kind and appreciative of the crew. These are the reasons why I felt compelled to express my gratitude through this post."
'A' then shared, "For several years, I suffered from a severe illness and had to undergo major surgery due to cancer. My mother was also unwell, and I had to support her medical and living expenses all by myself, so things seemed very bleak." They confessed, "Senior Actor Choi Gwi Hwa heard about my difficult situation, and he willingly helped with the surgery costs. Thanks to him, I was able to receive treatment and continue working in good health."
Expressing heartfelt gratitude, A' went on to tell of Choi Gwi Hwa's continued care and support for them and their ailing mother. They also shed light on the encouraging words of the actor: "Focus on your treatment; your debt to me is paid the moment we meet again on set."
They concluded by saying, "Now, I'm doing a completely different job for my livelihood, but I promise to work harder so that someday I can return to the set as a staff member and contribute to the production."
Choi Gwi Hwa's benevolent deeds invoked warm responses from online netizens who commented, "Actor Choi Gwi Hwa is truly admirable," "He's such a precious person. My heart feels warm," "Even though he recently gained fame, he's truly amazing," "I remember seeing him in the 'The Roundup 2' film," and "This is really impressive and touching."
Choi Gwi Hwa's agency, 781 Company, confirmed the story's authenticity.
Choi Gwi Hwa made his debut in 1997 with the play 'Paper Kite.' He has since appeared in numerous works, including dramas such as 'Painter of the Wind,' 'Misaeng,' 'My Golden Life,' 'Bad Guys: The City of Evil,' 'Suits,' and films like 'Train to Busan,' 'The King,' 'Fabricated City,' 'A Taxi Driver,' 'The Drug King,' 'Long Live the King,' 'The Dude in Me,' 'The Roundup 1 and 2,' and 'The Witch: Part 1. The Subversion.'
How do you know if someone is a good person? They do things without the intention of being seen. This man said not a single word about helping this person, and that speaks VOLUMES to the kind of person he is. I have massive respect for people like this, and in my opinion, there needs to be more people like this.

I'm glad to see that A is doing well, too.
