The court date for the first trial involving singer Nam Tae Hyun and Channel A's 'Heart Signal 3' contestant Seo Min Jae has been set. The pair, recently indicted without detention on charges of methamphetamine use, will now face trial later this month.
According to legal sources on September 13, the 7th Criminal Division of the Seoul Western District Court scheduled the first hearing for their drug-related charges on September 19.
On August 31st, the 3rd Criminal Division of the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office announced the indictment of Nam Tae Hyun and Seo Min Jae on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act.
The prosecution reportedly considered several factors when deciding to proceed without detention. Both individuals not only confessed to purchasing and consuming methamphetamine, but Nam Tae Hyun also enrolled himself in a rehabilitation facility and participated in public broadcasts to educate about the perils of drug abuse. Seo Min Jae, a first-time offender, fully cooperated with the investigation.
According to the charges, they consumed the drug together in August at Seo Min Jae's residence in Yongsan-gu, Seoul. In addition, Nam Tae Hyun allegedly used methamphetamine alone while overseas in December of the same year.
In August of last year, Seo Min Jae posted a message on her own social media saying, "Nam Tae Hyun and I are drug addicts. There is a syringe in the company cabinet."
However, she deleted the message the next day stating "I fought with my boyfriend and I took some medicine because I was so stressed and in a state of losing my mind. That's why I uploaded a post that has nothing to do with the facts."
After the controversy, some netizens who felt Seo Min Jae's instability reported it to the police, leading to an investigation. About a year after the controversy, in June of last year, Seo Min Jae posted on his social media, saying, "I sincerely apologize to all those who have been harmed and hurt by me. The mistakes I made are entirely my responsibility, so I will reflect on them for the rest of my life and do my best to take responsibility for the parts I must."
Nam Tae Hyun, who had suspended his activities, revealed on his personal YouTube channel on the 1st of this month, "I was really foolish. I was intoxicated by the fleeting fame, and I thought the world was all mine," and "I was filled with arrogance, whether it was youthful exuberance or something else. That's how my wings broke, and I fell to the ground."
I really wish she got help (rehab, counseling etc) without implicating herself publicly. She had such an impressive career. To think it all was destroyed because of a temporary BF is extremely sad
