This past weekend, fromis_9 member Lee Chae Young shared some artsy photos on her Instagram and Instagram story, giving fans a glimpse into one of her beloved hobbies.
But some netizens quickly noticed an object that caught their eyes - an e-cigarette - tucked into a pocket in front of Lee Chae Young.
A topic of heated debate in the K-Pop world, the e-cigarette once again sparked varied reactions from netizens, as some commented,
"There are so many idols who smoke. What's the big deal..?"
"So many idols have been photographed smoking outside their schedules that this is no surprise at all."
"Guess what? Idols are people just like us. They smoke and drink and did you know, they poop too!"
"She's a legal adult, so there's nothing wrong with it."
"Quit bothering idols who haven't done anything that goes against the laws. Go after the rulebreakers."
"If this was a male idol, the fans would have been like, 'Oh look at my oppa, he's so cool'."
"How can you be sure that's even her? Didn't she recently have black hair?"
"Why are people acting like she took a photo of herself smoking like she was trying to advertise the e-cigarettes kekekekeke. It must have been an accident. Just chill out."
However, others were more critical as they said,
"It looks like she's in a car, so it might not even be hers. Aren't people jumping to conclusions? And I heard that e-cigarettes from that brand are really strong, even for people who've been smoking for years."
"Typical of a K-Pop group on their last leg before disbandment... acting like they don't care about anything kekekekeke."
"I've always gotten the impression from Lee Chae Young that she was an iljin. She even acts like an iljin now during promotions, like's she's everybody's boss."
"I'm a Flover, and I agree that she can smoke since she's an adult. But why did she have to post a photo? It hasn't even been a week since Ji Sun's incident. The fans can't protect you forever."
"It's true that if female idols want to maintain their image, they should keep their smoking habits hidden. This might not be the most relevant thing, but a lot of female idols smoke lol. That's the first thing people suggest them when they debut and start getting stressed out about being public figures."
As mentioned above, a similar e-cigarette was spotted in fellow fromis_9 member Noh Ji Sun's recent live broadcast, creating a similar buzz.
So its fine to be a drunkard in SK, but smoking is seen as something outrageous? There's a cult of drinking alcohol in Korea, if you don't drink than you'll be an outsider almost everywhere, even if you can't drink for health reasons, so its strange to see them so angry about vape. ( I'm against both, alcohol and smoking)
