It has already been 20 days since the passing of singer Choi Sung Bong, but his funeral has yet to be arranged due to the absence of a bereaving family.
On July 13, it was reported that his body was still being kept in a funeral home's freezer at a hospital.
An official from the Gangnam-gu office in Seoul told News1, "We designated Choi Sung Bong's acquaintance, as the organizer of the funeral and notified them on July 12. So, after the funeral takes place, we plan to receive a report on how the funeral was held within 30 days."
It is said that the late Choi Sung Bong's body currently rests in a temporary holding facility at a designated hospital because he is without any bereaving family members to take his body.
Star News reported on July 13 about the funeral details that Choi Sung Bong's acquaintance will arrange.
The acquaintance told the media outlet, "We plan to prepare a mortuary this Saturday (July 15). The location has not been decided yet." Choi Sung Bong's acquaintance stated that they plan to receive visitors as soon as the mortuary is prepared, and the funeral will take place over two days.
The acquaintance added, "He was a lonely person so it's not easy to send him like this. He did a lot of wrongful things and the public opinion of him is not good. But still, I believe that people who want to send condolences will come visit."
Meanwhile, the police report that Choi Sung Bong was discovered deceased in his residence in Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, at 9:41 AM on June 20. The police, based on the initial observations at the scene and the results of the autopsy, have ruled out any suspicion of foul play.
On the same day, Choi Sung left a final message to his YouTube channel community, expressing his sorrow. He shared, "The reason I am writing this is to send a letter to my fans for the last time in my life. If you're able to see this, it means I am already dead. I sincerely apologize to those who have suffered due to my foolishness. I'm sorry. I repaid back all the donations that were given to me over the past two years. Now, I want to repay my sins with my life."
I hope they can put him to rest soon. Regardless of the opinion of the public, people deserve to at least be sent off respectfully. Maybe it's just me, but it makes me sad to see something like this happen.
