The 'Dancing Queens on the Road' concert faced a controversy over refunds due to lack of preparation for the performance. On the evening of July 9 KST in Seoul, the final stage of the tvN variety show 'Dancing Queens on the Road' team took place. Anticipating the stage of legendary artists, audiences who attended the concert hall left disappointed.
The concert featured performances by Kim Wan Sun, Uhm Jung Hwa, Lee Hyori, BoA, Hwa Sa, SHINee's Taemin, Red Velvet's Seulgi, Zico, Rain, and HyunA. However, some audience members complained that there were too many guests on stage, overshadowing the performances of the 'dancing queens'.
The dissatisfaction among the audience amplified after the performance was delayed and lasted for approximately 5 hours instead of the originally scheduled 150 minutes. Technical difficulties and reshoots further caused interruptions during the performance. To make matters worse, the concert ended past midnight, leaving attendees who relied on public transportation stranded, as the last train had already departed. Facing expensive taxi costs, frustrated audience members expressed their disappointment in the lack of consideration for their inconvenience.
The lack of communication regarding the progress of the concert seemed to be the main cause of the audience's displeasure. Although the show had announced in advance that it would be recorded for broadcast, the audience was unaware of the disruptions and delays caused by the setting up of each stage. Consequently, they felt as though they were merely spectators, not active participants in a paid concert. Requests for refunds flooded in due to the disrespectful handling of the audience's experience.
On July 10 KST, the 'Dancing Queens on the Road' issued a statement addressing the situation.
"Due to the nature of the concert, which was conducted along with the recording of the broadcast, the preparation time was longer than expected in the process of preparing for each stage. Due to heavy rain, a power outage occurred during the final rehearsal on the day, and this caused a power outage on the stage. In the process, some unexpected errors occurred in special effects and electronic equipment, so the end of the performance was later than planned.
As this Seoul performance is the official last stage of 'Dance Singer's Traveling Team', the members of the troupe and the production team put their heart and soul into preparing to show a new song unique to 'Dance Singer's Traveling Troupe, as well as selections and stages that were not shown in previous performances. Except for the opening and encore performances, out of a total of 20 stages, all but 4 of the guest stages were decorated with the stories of the wandering troupe.
I would like to express my apologies once again to the fans who caused inconvenience to the viewing. I would like to thank all those who supported 'Dance Singer's Wandering Troupe' and those who participated in the Seoul concert, and hope that it will become a program that can be loved even more in the future. I will try harder.”
I can't believe they charged people to attend what was basically a long broadcast recording. Usually that kind of thing is free and people would be informed of what they were in for (long wait times, etc.). On the other hand, the people who were stranded should have just left when they needed to but still asked for a refund since it was impossible for them to get what they had paid for.
