During a court hearing which took place on the afternoon of June 28 KST, the father of musician B.I (Kim Han Bin) appeared as a witness in YG Entertainment producer Yang Hyun Suk's ongoing appeal trial for the threatening of informant 'A'.
Yang Hyun Suk was previously accused by informant 'A' of threatening her to take back her statement to the police, after she gave B.I's name as a buyer of illegal drugs in 2016. B.I's illegal drug investigation was successfully covered up at the time, but 3 years later, police launched a re-investigation into the case. As a result, in September of last year, B.I was found guilty of abusing the illegal drug marijuana three times and purchasing the illegal drug LSD. He was sentenced to 3 years in prison, deferred by a probationary period of 4 years.
The initial court found that there was inadequate evidence to conclude that Yang Hyun Suk directly threatened informant 'A'. The prosecution appealed the court's initial decision, and the appeal trial is currently ongoing. At a hearing which took place on June 28, the father of B.I appeared as a witness and disclosed new details in the case, confirming that he paid YG Entertainment 2 million KRW (~ $1,500 USD) in cash, which was to be used for the hiring of a lawyer for informant 'A'.
According to the court on this day, B.I and his father visited Japan in August of 2016 several days before iKON's scheduled performance in the country. However, B.I and his father returned to Korea 3 days before the performance due to a call from YG Entertainment, saying that there was an "issue". This was around the time that 'A' gave B.I's name to the police.
After returning to Korea, B.I's father was told by an employee of YGE, "Yang Hyun Suk will meet 'A' and put things right, so don't worry." B.I's father confirmed that he recalled being told this. He also testified that he did not attempt to ask B.I personally if he had used illegal drugs or not, as B.I was not in good health at the time.
B.I's father further testified that he wanted to pay for informant 'A's lawyer, because "I thought that 'A' had lied, and YG should provide her with a lawyer to make things right. But YG said that this was not possible, and so I suggested that I pay for the lawyer, and gave them the fees. YG also thought that for me to directly pay for 'A's lawyer would be suspicious, so they acted as a middle man."
An additional hearing is scheduled to take place on August 25.
This is way more confusing than an Ikea DIY.
