Song Joong Ki recently found himself at the center of a heated discussion over his remarks in an interview with a Chinese media outlet.
During the interview, Song Joong Ki discussed the challenges of balancing his personal and professional life and suggested that being a husband and father could potentially result in job loss in the acting industry. He shared, "Sometimes, being a father, being a husband, that means (you can) lose jobs in this show business. Being a father, having a baby, and being married to a woman, in this business sometimes, looks like losing my job more and more..."
It seemed that Song Joong Ki was attempting to explain that being married can limit an actor in getting certain roles, but his remarks have sparked a heated debate among various online community users.
Online community users questioned the validity of his statement since the times have changed, and various renowned actors are able to be cast for dynamic roles despite being parents and their marital status.
Korean netizens commented, "When did male actors....lose their job after being married?" "I guess sometimes smart people can say dumb things," "It's for sure that you do lose some popularity after being married but I don't know about your job," "He's not an idol but an actor," "I think it's harder for actresses after getting married and having a baby," "I don't think actors lose their job after getting married and having a baby," "If your a good actor, he doesn't need to worry about losing his job, you'll always get new roles if you're a good actor," and, "I think being an actor is more stable than being a singer when you get married and have a baby."
Never thought I'd say this but I agree with the netizens this time, there are many actors that are married with kids that are casted for main roles and still have thriving careers such as Lee Byung Hun, Ji Sung, Jang Hyuk, Cha Seung Won, etc. They can also progress into more mature roles in the future so for high-profile actors, they will always have roles available for them unlike the idol industry which exploits parasocial relationships between fans and artists, making it much harder for idols to continue their careers after marriage
