Shotgun marriage does not really exist once you are out of your parents house. I might be downvoted a lot but to me formalizing marriage makes sense to sort out legal things about baby. I do not romanticize marriage itself. Even in Korea it is quite normal for 30+ and 40+ to live together (regardless if you share space or not) and get married once kid is on the way. Kids from wedlock are not legally regulated in SK and Japan the same way as in the west, it is true pain in the neck legally (I do not refer on societal reaction that depends on the person and your private circle) It is not like they are 18, jobless, living with their parents and dreaming of everlasting love. They are accomplished individuals, already have serious relationship and are together for 3 years, with baby on the way there are legal things to do. Love can exist without being ‘crowned’ in marriage. It simply cannot be shotgun wedding for ppl in 30s and 40s that are together for years.
