KBS News, one of the largest broadcasting networks in South Korea, is known for its serious and credible reporting on current events. However, their reporters recently caught the attention of netizens for a different reason - their humorous email addresses.
On May 1, an online community post garnered much attention and went viral after introducing the unconventional email addresses belonging to KBS News reporters.
According to the post, reporter Kim Ok Cheon set his email as 'Hub@kbs.co.kr' while reporter Jung Hae Joo used 'Seyo@kbs.co.kr.'
This is because the 'hub' that reporter Kim Ok Cheon decided for his email was taken from the 'Okcheon Hub,' a delivery terminal that is notorious for having a high risk of delay or loss of packages.
Reporter Jung Hae Joo used 'Seyo' as her email address because once her name and email are displayed together, they create the sentence "Jung Hae Joo Se Yo," which is a phrase to mean "Please decide" in Korean.
Netizens commented, "Okcheon Hub is hilarious," "What's Jung Hae Joo Seyo, lol!" "This is so creative," "I would've never thought of this," "This is so creative," and "I want them to make an email address idea for me."
Even in the past, there were many KBS reporters who made headlines with their email addresses.
Reporter Park Dae Gi used the email address 'waiting@kbs.co.kr' using the English translation of his name "DaeGi," which means "on standby or waiting." In particular, reporter Park Dae Gi went viral after he was seen giving a weather report while waiting outside in a snowstorm with snow accumulating on his jacket over time.
Other reporters' email addresses that garnered attention are reporter Choi Seon Joong using 'best-ing@kbs.co.kr' because his full name 'Choi Seon Joong,' translates to "Currently doing one's best."
Also, reporter Ahn Hye Ri uses 'Potter@kbs.co.kr' because her name 'Hye Ri' is another way to write 'Harry' in Korean, while reporter Jung Se Bae's email is 'newboat@kbs.co.kr' because his name 'Se Bae' means 'new boat' in Korean.
Meanwhile, reporter Park Dae Gi revealed in 2019 that the KBS reporters choose their own email address names in hopes that they make a strong impression on viewers within the few seconds their name is displayed on the screen. He revealed that there are some reporters who share they already thought of their email addresses during their interview process.
