IU's winning speech at the '2018 Golden Disc Awards' regained attention in light of the recent passing of ASTRO's Moonbin.
On April 20 KST, IU sat down for an interview about her character in the new film 'Dream'. However, on the morning of her interview day, the sad news of ASTRO member Moonbin's passing was reported and IU quickly requested an interview embargo. Thus, the contents of her interview were belatedly released a few days later. During her interview, IU stated, "I woke up and saw the news [of Moonbin's passing], and my heart feels very sad and is not in a good state. As someone who has seen a lot of my colleagues and friends struggle a lot while working [in this industry], it is just very unfortunate."
IU continued, "In the past, in a space where I won a big award, I have said this before but - If our society was a place where difficult and hurtful things were naturally accepted, wouldn't it be nice to live in a society where we can be more generous toward each other?" IU was referring to her speech from when she had won the 'Daesang' award at the '2018 Golden Disc Award', where she addressed the passing of SHINee's Jonghyun while expressing her thoughts on what could possibly be improved in the environment created by the South Korean music industry. IU's speech back in 2018 had comforted many, as her words were praised as being very eloquently spoken. Her speech from nearly five years ago was once again praised for emphasizing the importance of K-pop idols to take care of themselves more than anything, despite the nature of their job where they bring comfort to others with their music.
