Japan is proving their devotion to perhaps the most popular K-pop idol in their country by giving Vogue Korea's October issue, featuring Kim Taehyung, aka V, the royal treatment.
On October 21, Taehyung's Vogue Korea covers went on sale at 22 of Japan's biggest physical bookstores nationwide, including Tsutaya Bookstore, known as Japan’s largest bookstore chain.
Touted as Japan's "most beautiful bookstore," Tsutaya Bookstore also has a reputation for being a cultural space that breaks down the boundaries of bookstores, libraries, and cafes.
The magazines were displayed in the most prominent locations of Tsutaya Bookstores in Shibuya and Ginza in Tokyo, where there is a huge floating population of young people.
Shibuya Tatsuya Bookstore
At Shibuya Tatsuya Bookstore, all six 'Vogue Korea' covers decorated the wall on the 7th floor, suggesting high sales volume due to the location and scale of the arrangement. The exhibition looked like a display from a museum.
Daikanyama Tsutaya Bookstore
At Tsutaya Bookstore's Daikanyama branch, located in a trendy district in Shibuya, an entire glass wall is turned into a gallery-like exhibition dedicated to Taehyung.
In addition to the wall display, the bookstore also dedicated a 'Pop Up' for Taehyung to meet the high demand among buyers.
Other bookstores, including Ginza Tsutaya Bookstore, located in Japan's largest shopping street, also created their own 'Pop Up' displays for the magazines.
Fans were amazed at the promotional efforts from Japan's largest bookstores and compared the gorgeous displays they created to a "shrine" and a "museum."
Some stores have limited purchases to one cover version per customer to meet the high demand. Shibuya Tsutaya Bookstore announced, "You can only purchase one cover of each type per person," while Ginza Tsutaya Bookstore revealed they had to restock covers that sold out instantly.
Not only in Japan, but the October issue has been in high demand in domestic and international stores, proving Taehyung's unrivaled global popularity.
It recently became the 1st K-pop magazine to exceed 50,000 copies sold on the global platform Ktown4u. It also earned the highest sales record among K-pop idols in China.
So pretty!
