The K-drama, Our Blues was considered one of the best shows in recent times by many. Fans of the series loved its storyline and how the situations in the show were handled. But what was most important was the show’s ending, which we can say was satisfying enough. Throughout the episodes, we are introduced to an ensemble of cast and their stories. The concept of love and forgiveness is crucial here.

*This ia an illusion. The darkness isn't real. It's bright outside. It's all in my head. - Seona*
One day, a friend was walking in the park with me. It was a sunny day. Suddenly, she held my arm with both her hands tightly. Everything around her had turned dark. Then she asked me, It's still bright and sunny ya? The sky hasn't suddenly gone dark right? Cos it's like night to me now. What she described happening to her, it's like you are siting in your room at night, and suddenly someone switches off the light and left you in darkness. That was what happened to her. All of a sudden, in that park that day, the sun was "switched off". And she felt she was suddenly walking beside me, in a pitch black dark night. And the director showed it so well! Gave me goosebumps to finally see what my friend went through. What my friend did was to keep walking. So brave! She also told me that in a few minutes it would pass. So she just wanted to keep walking. True enough, in a few minutes, the darkness lifted. And the sun shone again, for her. She let go of my arm. Looking back, if i were in her position, i think i would be like Seona. I would just stop walking and panic! But my friend had gone through it a few times, she said, in the park with her dad, so she said she would always hold onto her dad's arm, keep walking and the sun would shine again after a few minutes for her. It helped her cope with how her brain functions. She was diagnosed with depression a few years back. The blackouts were the sign that she needs to stop whatever she's doing till her brain switches on again. That time I was with her, she said when someone is walking with her, she would just continue walking. If no one is walking with her, she would stop, focus on her breathing till she could see again. It's like slowly taking control of her brain again.
*If your depression kicks in and things turn pitch black, call me. Try your best to live." - Dong Seok
I didn't say that to my friend. I just told her hubby, tell her I am just a phone call away whenever she needs a friend to talk to.
Thank you Our Blues team, especially the scriptwriter, you wrote it well, and the director, you showed what happened to people like my friend, through Seona. On a positive note, my friend is well and still with us. She has great support from her parents, hubby, son, family and friends. Her motto in life, "Always take 3 steps forward. So when you fall, you are at least left with 1 step forward."
One of the best kdramas of the year for me, not only cos of Seona's story, but how real the others' stories were. Cos i experienced those stories through my family members, friends, colleagues and acquaintances. May we always be kind to everyone around us, we never know the demons they are fighting with each day to survive their awake moments.
