DJ SODA (real name Hwang So Hee, age 34), received an apology from the airline that kicked her off the plane because she was wearing pants with English profanity on them.
A May 9th report by Maeil Business Star Today revealed Company Blue, the agency behind DJ SODA, received an apology email from the customer service manager of American Airlines (AA) on the 28th of April, two days after the incident.
The airline said in an e-mail, "We are sincerely sorry for what Hwang So Hee faced, and we apologize for the lack of professionalism."
American Airlines added, "We are trying to create an environment that respects all passengers," regarding the attire that DJ Soda wore.
Agency Company Blue said, "The part we are unhappy about and complained about was that the staff recklessly kicked us off the plane without any explanation. If we had been given information and asked that DJ SODA could change her pants, we would have fixed the issue and would have had her change." The agency added, "We will not take additional actions since we received an apology email."
The incident spread and became viral in South Korea when DJ SODA posted on her Instagram on the 26th of last month that she was kicked out of the plane because of her pants.
In the post, DJ SODA said, "Yesterday, after a concert in New York, I was on a flight to LA, and I was suddenly kicked out of the plane right before departure. I was enjoying my welcome drink in business class when a staff suddenly approached me to pack up my belongings and leave the plane without any kind of explanation.”
DJ SODA also posted a video of her wearing the pants with the phrase ‘F*** YOU’ written on them and arguing with the staff over the pants.
DJ SODA, who was eventually able to get back on the plane with her pants on, said, "With my broken fingers, I hardly ended up taking off my pants in front of the whole crew and standing half-naked while they still refused to board me on the flight. They even sarcastically commented that I could have taken off my pants earlier. When they finally let me enter, I put my pants inside out and finally sat down after an hour of delay causing inconvenience to the members of the flights on board. I was mortified and trembling in fear for the next 6 hours on my flight back to LA."
