All K-POP idol groups will have to go through at least one obstacle during their career, and one of them includes contract renewals. Typically, K-POP groups are committed to a seven-year contract, allowing the group to promote for seven years. After those seven years, they have an option to either re-sign with their current agency or leave to a new agency.
When a certain member or multiple members leave the agency, that creates many legal problems for the group to actively promote together, so the group usually disbands. Of course, if that member left on a sour note, then it would be even more difficult for the group to promote together.
Fortunately, there are groups who are still considered active and not "disbanded." They have come together every year or every few years to release songs and albums for their fans and the public. Today, we will be looking at some groups that aren't officially disbanded but with certain members in different agencies. These groups have come together to promote together and even release full albums together. That's good news for those fandoms because... it's always great to see your bias K-POP group promote after their actively promoting days. So let's take a look and see which groups are actually still considered active!
Girl's Generation (Debut 2007)
SM Entertainment - Taeyeon, Yoona, Hyoyeon, Sunny, Yuri
U.S. - Tiffany
Saram Entertainment - Sooyoung
Namoo Actors - Seohyun
Though the group hasn't released an album ever since this structure in 2017, they recently appeared on "Yoo Quiz on the Block" for their fourteenth anniversary, and they promised fans that they ARE still one group.
2PM (Debut 2009)
JYP Entertainment - Jun.K, Junho, Wooyoung, Nichkun
51K - Taecyeon
Undecided - Chansung
Chansung recently announced his departure from JYP Entertainment, but the group actually released an album last year even after he left the label. Chansung stated that he will still be a part of 2PM and its activities.
Infinite (Debut 2010)
Woollim Entertainment - Woohyun
Double HTNE - Sungkyu
Big Boss Entertainment - Dongwoo
Management 2SANG - L, Sungyeol
Unconfirmed - Sungjong
This group is surprising that they could still promote because all of them are still scattered. Despite being scattered, they have created their own content as a group and appeared on radio shows several times. Hopefully, we'll be able to see them release an album soon as well!
A PINK (Debut 2011)
IST Entertainment - Chorong, Eunji, Bomi, Namjoo, Hayoung
YG Entertainment - Naeun
We already know that this group is active as we've been alerted that they are preparing for a February comeback - their 11th-anniversary special album. Fans are super excited to see these queens back in action again, though Naeun will not be participating in promotions. She WILL be in the album and music video, however, so don't be too sad.
Block B (Debut 2011)
Seven Seasons - Taeil, Jaehyo, B-Bomb, Park Kyung, U-Kwon
KOZ - ZICO
Artist Company - P.O
Block B is also a group that still considers them active. Though ZICO left to pursue his own agency and P.O. is now with Artist Company, Block B claims the group has not disbanded and plans on promoting again once everyone is done with their military enlistment.
VIXX (Debut 2012)
Jellyfish Entertainment - Ken, Hyuk, Leo
51K - N
GROOVL1N - Ravi
Our favorite concept boy group VIXX is actually still considered active as well! Though some members are still going through military enlistment, hopefully, we will be able to see more of them soon.
GOT7 (Debut 2014)
H1GHER MUSIC - JB
U.S - Mark
Sublime Entertainment - Jackson, Youngjae
BH Entertainment - Jinyoung
ABYSS COMPANY - BamBam
AOMG - Yukyum
Another group with quite the scatter, but after GOT7's contract ended with JYP Entertainment, they actually released a fan song! Though JYP Entertainment isn't the management agency for the group itself anymore, it looks like this group is still tight-knit, and they were able to release a fan song to the dedicated fans.
MAMAMOO (Debut 2014)
RBW - Solar, Hwasa, Moonbyul
The Live - Hweein
Mamamoo announced that Hweein would be leaving the company last year, but they promised that they would still be MAMAMOO no matter what. In fact, their most recent album was released after the contract expired for Hweein. This group is extremely talented, and they're well-known for being super close as well, so fans were happy to hear that they can still see MAMAMOO in action!
And that's it! Though these contracts may have ended and the members may be in a different agency, they promised that they are still a group..! If we put it this way, we would have to account for all the first-generation K-POP groups who haven't officially "disbanded," such as Fin.K.L, but we were able to see them in 2019 through "Camping Club."
What are your thoughts? Are you happy to see YOUR favorite bias group still promote as a group? Did we miss out on any of them? Let us know in the comments below!
Forgetting a few groups still. Especially BEG who did it before the groups on here.
