A couple of days ago, the Indian show, Times Now, had released the interview they held with BTS as a guest, being Sakshma Srivastav the interviewer. The interview lasted 18 minutes and is available on their official YouTube channel, "zoom", being seen by more than 6 million people around the world. Not only Ms. Srivastav was praised for her beauty and charm, but also for the way she managed to keep the guys laughing, blushing, and feeling comfortable, all the same time.
The fact that she asked permission for everything, including making them say a whole complete sentence in Hindi, talks about her professionalism. She has interviewed many K-pop artists before, including TXT, so she is extremely familiar with the topics to talk about, and also, Big Hit Entertainment knows exactly who they are sending its boys with.
The first thing she has done was a general question about "Butter", what does it mean, and what was the fun part about doing it, being answered of course by BTS's leader, RM. After being responded with nearly the same answer as always, which is that the song was made to bring a lot of positive energy and is not really a hard track, just a dance-pop one, adding at the end that the members had a hard time pronouncing the lyrics; she moved onto what the real interview was, starting with the oldest of them all, Jin, who presented himself as "Namaste, Worldwide Handsome guy Jin", making his bandmates and the interviewer laugh, a statement that she very much agreed on. She asked Jin if his good looks could overshadow the fact that he is a very talented and hard-working man, all of this while praising his voice and dance skills. Jin simply answered that him being handsome is a plus and he really doesn't feel like his talent could be in second place.
Mrs. Srivastav moved on with SUGA, the second oldest of the group, and asked him about the feelings of pain that BTS has portrayed in their songs and whether is it difficult or not to bring back those painful memories and feelings while singing those specific songs. SUGA looked at her, maybe surprised about her complex question, and answered that the best way to release that pain, was producing and making a song, so at the end of the process it doesn't really hurt that much anymore compared to at the beginning. He explained that when each member is working on their solo projects, they choose what to talk about and that they feel thankful for those memories that enable them to tell stories. Finally, he said that is important for someone to organize their feelings so that they can start living happily.
Continuing with J-hope, who was smiling almost all the time that the interview was ongoing, Mrs. Srivastav talked about the donation that he has done to children suffering from violence in Tanzania, which was the generous amount of a hundred million Korean won. She added that all of the members of BTS had been doing for a while now these kinds of donations. The question that she prepared for J-hope, was about the goals that he personally has and also, the next goal for BTS since it's very common for them to achieve all of their dreams, and how does it feel like to be there, on top of success. With a smile, bright as sunshine, J-hope answered that they are where they are because it seems like destiny aligned in favor of them, and in the end, they were just doing hard work on what was their thing, so it's very likely that if they keep working hard, they'll keep inspiring a lot of people, which is actually their goal now. Oh, and also a Grammy next year!
Next, RM was the center. The interviewer asked him a very specific question about reinventing their concepts and if it was hard or not to came up with new ideas that could attract even more audiences. "Basicly, it was never easy", he started. He talked about the amount of pressure they had when they must release between 2 to 3 songs in a year, except the time of "Dynamite" and now, "Butter", with almost 9 months of difference and 10 tracks in between (Life Goes On, Savage Love and Film Out that are MVs, plus their latest studio album, "BE"), making this time even harder for them and how there probably hasn't been an artist doing so much amount of content in such a little time. The visuals, their new hairstyles, the concepts, news, all of it are being done with a lot of pressure because people expect to see something different and appealing. RM emphasizes that he would be lying if he were to say that everything is fun or joy, but they know that this is the life they always wanted and, if it were to be any different, they probably won't be enjoying as much as they do, despite the pressure.
Not without telling RM how intellectual he sounds and that is always a pleasure hearing him talk, Mrs. Srivastav continued her complex and very elaborated questions towards Jimin. Her question was about social media and the pictures they take to upload them, bringing back moments where Jimin would post many selfies while being younger, and whether they think twice before saying anything or post anything. Jimin agrees by saying that they do need to be careful with what they post and that sometimes it could be kind of annoying but, they also know that all of the eyes are on them so that feeling is most of the time very positive. They have an image to take care and so they do. But he also adds that they feel happy whenever, with their actions and words, can influence people and make them happier.
When the turn of V has come, the interviewer didn't lose her time to praise him as the fangirl and V biased she is: she told him that his voice is amazing, sexy and it just keeps getting better and better with time. Her question was whether his voice was natural, something that someone has to born with or if he had to practice and do a lot of vocal exercises while being a trainee. The interaction between those two were full of positive and cute comments, as when V just mimicked her gestures and blow her a kiss. All blushed because of her words and his mates laughing at him, he responded that his teacher used to scold him because of his way of singing, but that he improved himself by working very hard. "It's a beautiful voice. Is like... If you sing all night, the world will listen all night" said Mrs. Srivastav, ending it.
The last question went for the Golden maknae, Jung Kook, which hairstyle was admired by the interviewer, telling him that his hair color was a nice choice. Her question was about the lesson he has learned during his younger days or, something he learned now that he will cherish forever. Stuttering a little bit, JK answered that there's no specific lesson but people who were extremely nice to him that has influenced him into good things, especially the members, so he is very thankful about it. Out of nowhere, J-hope suddenly burst into laughter, and the reaction of the interviewer was priceless and above all, the funniest scene. "I'm building myself as a person", finished Jung Kook.
A team question was done again, about how they overcome their tiredness due to performances or anything else. Jin came up with the best and heartwarming answer: they do their best when they know that fans, who had supported them always, are watching, so it's not like they are going to give just half of their abilities on stage, but do it properly and professionally because fans deserve the best. The guys gave a lovely and cute message for their Indian ARMY, calling them "beautiful" and telling them that their pray goes to all of those families that are struggling with COVID-19, all of this after the interviewer told them about the donations and the 2 million of Indian ARMY being ready to be part of a concert. BTS said that, as soon as all of this situation is clear and is safe to do a tour, India would definitely be in.
At the end of the whole interview, Sakshma Srivastav made them said a whole sentence in Hindi, something that they always do with the foreign artists they interviewed. She taught them how to say "Indian BTS ARMY, you live in our hearts", and after several tries, they finally managed to say it correctly: "Indian BTS ARMY, आप हमारे दिलों में रहते हैं" [aap hamaare dilon mein rahate hain].
ARMY has been fond of the interview, their interactions and has been calling out most Western interviewers for their lack of capacity to create a comfortable space while having BTS as their guests, something that probably didn't happen for the first time in this comeback. Absolutely gorgeous, Sakshma Srivastav has accepted all of the compliments received and also called out haters, most of them being solo stans, the type of fandom that seriously, not any artist need and definitely, not BTS.
